Santa Fe South Cross Country Takes State!

Cross Country Season is finally over and with a great ending. The SFS high school Cross-Country boys’ team won State at the Class 4A meet on Oct.31st. It was a close call, with SFS winning by only five points.
Last year they were Runners-up in the 4-A State meet and as of last year their goal had been to win this year. All their hard work and training finally paid off.
The boys participating in the meet were Jose Castaneda coming in 8th place as a freshman, senior Ramiro Becerra finished 9th, senior Michael Martinez finished 18th, senior Jaime Fregoso finished 20th, senior Ernesto Castillo finished 11th, junior David Cabral finished 13th, and senior Carlos Reyes finished 30th.
With Jose Castaneda and David Cabral returning next year, SFS should have a good chance to win back to back State Championships.
“At the State Meet, feeling tired and excited, because this was the first State Cross-Country Championship that we have won. We also beat our biggest opponent Madill who in the past has been the best team in the State. Now I know that all the hard work at practice really paid off,” said senior Ernesto Castillo.
Also sophomore Anna Frost represented SFS at the meet getting 10th place and qualified as an All-Stater. Last year, as a freshman, she got 29th place and her goal had been to work harder. At the State meet she took 20 seconds off her previous best time.
“I really don’t like running, I hate it. I especially hated having to do it everyday in practice, but every time you cross the finish line you feel really good. It feels like you have accomplished something. Even if you feel like your about to fall over or throw up,” said sophomore Anna Frost.
