Safety and Preparedness Drill Compliance

At Santa Fe South Schools, the safety of our students and staff is our absolute highest priority. We believe that clear preparation, combined with a positive and supportive school culture, is key to ensuring a safe learning environment.

In compliance with Oklahoma law, we conduct a minimum of ten safety and security drills throughout the school year. These drills are carefully coordinated, documented, and reviewed by site leadership to ensure the highest level of preparedness across all our campuses.

Our annual required drill schedule includes:

  • Fire Drills (Two per year): We conduct one fire drill within the first 15 days of each semester. These drills use a designated audible signal to teach quick, safe, and orderly evacuation procedures.

  • Tornado Drills (Two per year): To prepare for severe weather, we conduct two tornado drills, with at least one occurring in September and one in March.

  • Security Drills (Four per year): We conduct four security drills to practice procedures for various safety scenarios, ensuring our staff and students know how to respond effectively in high-stress situations.

  • Additional Safety Drills (Two per year): The remaining two required safety drills are utilized by each school principal to address specific risks or recommendations unique to their facility or in consultation with local safety and law enforcement agencies.

Students and staff are required to participate fully in every drill. Each Santa Fe South school site is responsible for maintaining detailed, written documentation for every drill conducted. These records are preserved and shared with the district administrative office and the Oklahoma School Security Institute to confirm full compliance with all state safety standards.
